Shipping a car across the Canadian border is not an easy task.  Auto Transport has provide below, answers to a list of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's) and concerns most of our customers usually have regarding their shipping needs and transport of their vehicle. Can I ship any kind of vehicle into Canada?

NO! The Canadian government has many rules, regulations, on what vehicle are Admissible or  Inadmissible into Canada.




How do I know what vehicle are Admissible or Inadmissible into Canada from the U.S.?

Check with RIV (Registrar of Imported Vehicles: in your province. RIV can assist you on the type of vehicle you have purchase to see if it is admissible or inadmissible into Canada. The Internet has several agencies who offer answers to many questions on what vehicle may or may not enter into Canada. Make sure you complete this process prior to your purchase.




What documents do I need to Ship my vehicle into Canada?

You need the ORIGINAL title, bill of sale, recall letter, registration and a copy of your passport.




What if the vehicle I purchase doesn’t have a title can I still ship my vehicle into Canada?

No! U.S. Border Customs and Border Protection are very strict when releasing a vehicle into Canada. No ORIGINAL vehicle title means no entry into Canada.




What does the U.S. Customs have to do with me importing a vehicle into Canada?

If your vehicle is shipping out of the U.S. into Canada, it will cross through one of the U.S. borders to get into Canada. The U.S. Customs and Border Protection works together to protect the United States and Canada from pollution and from car theft.




Can I ship a vehicle if it’s inoperable?

Yes, we can ship an inoperable vehicle, however there will be an additional fee for all inoperable vehicle. The vehicle must roll and steer have a working emergency brake, and all tires must be properly inflated. We do not ship wrecked vehicles.




How long does it take to ship a vehicle from the U.S. to Canada?

Generally we estimate 10 to 14 days transit time after the pick-up of your vehicle. However, there are several variables like road conditions, weather, and customers’ availability may have a negative impact on the transit time.




How long is my transport quoted cost good for?

Our quotes are based on fuel and demand. The quote that is provided to you is good for seven business days. However, Transporter Auto Services, reserves the right to adjust any and all quotes.




What do I do if the truck can’t get into my location for pick up of my vehicle?

The truck driver will get as close to your door as is safely and legally possible. Many cities have restrictions on large trucks that prohibit them from driving into some residential areas. Transport truck are an average of 75 ft. long, weighs about 78,000 lbs., and are built low to the ground and needs lots of space to maneuver and turn around. If your home is restricted by narrow streets, low-hanging trees, speed bumps or tight turns, the driver may ask you to meet the truck at a different destination or we will arrange a convenient location, like a shopping center or major street crossing, to pick up or deliver your vehicle.




How much does it cost to ship a vehicle from the U.S. to Canada?

Prices are determined on vehicle size, mileage and pick-up and delivery location.




When is the payment due for the shipment of my vehicle into Canada?


Payment is due upon the booking of your vehicle.




What type of payment is acceptable?

We only accept money wire transfers for international shipping.




Can I put personal items in my car?


No, we only ship vehicles.







Does my vehicle have insurance when in transit?


Yes. All vehicles are insured with the truck’s cargo insurance and are subject to a deductible. There are exceptions to this based on one to one.




Can my vehicle be delivered door to door into Canada?


To have your vehicle delivery to your door you need to have a customs broker to clear all of the paper work and sent to the border crossing with the RIV and GST taxes paid on the vehicle prior to crossing the Canadian. We can refer you to our Canada customs broker. This is an extra fee of $100.00-150.00 Canadian money.




Why would I need to ship to a bonded warehouse instead to my resident?



Customs allows the shipment of a personal vehicle "in bond" to a customs warehouse based in several Canadian cities, but not all. If your vehicle is delivered to a bonder warehouse you can clear customs yourself and avoid the broker fee. However, the bonded warehouse has a fee that is levied by customs for the use of their facility. This fee is all most the same as a broker.
